“I take every thought, every feeling, every word, and I put it on canvas. I discovered that as an artist, I have to allow my words to become transparent visually, in order to free my voice. Challenging myself to share conceptually opens me up to really saying something meaningful.”

Tiamet “Ti” Webb, is a black female abstract artist, in Newport News, VA. She seeks to dispel the myth of what is considered black art, and the types of art created by black women. Using colour as her voice, she seeks to connect art, with what has plagued the black community for too many years. Black women making abstract art, has recently become a news worthy topic, that Ti believes will shed light on so many talented, but unheard artistic voices.

Ti fell in love with painting, like most people fall in love with most things – by accident. After her daughter suggested one Saturday, that they try painting, the love affair was rekindled.

“I know one day can change your life, but the impact of that day has allowed me to truly be myself. I take every thought, every feeling, every word, and I put it on canvas. I discovered that as an artist, I have to allow my words to become transparent visually, in order to free my voice. Challenging myself to share conceptually opens me up to really saying something meaningful.”

Using lessons shown, but unspoken by her Father, a talented artist and poet, Ti learned the recipe for making real art.

Her love of colour, texture and the unexpected, are constant themes in her work. She continues to challenge herself to create without thinking, to close off the conscious parts of her mind and allow herself to let her art flow naturally. It is in these moments in life, she believes we all are truly present, that we are able to deeply share and create our best.
